To carry an exposed firearm while on duty a security guard must possess BOTH a valid Security Guard Card and valid Exposed Firearm Permit. California BSIS approved firearms training requires a 16 hour training course. This training course consists of one full day of classroom instruction, and one day of practical exams including firing a live firearm on the range. Students must complete in-class and range instruction before being able to apply for a Exposed Firearms Permit..
